The blood of San Gennaro
In Naples, for a plurality of centuries it occurs annually wondrous phenomenon, the so-called "miracle of the blood" of San Gennaro. This martyr for the faith of Christ has suffered in the year 305 after Christ. As the story goes, one of the pious women, who was present at the execution, collected in a vial some blood. The vessel is kept in a reliquary at home. Since that time, and it originated this inexplicable phenomenon. Namely, clotted clot suddenly "come alive" and becomes liquid. Scientific studies have shown that this is a real human blood, has all the properties of living human blood. This wonderful phenomenon is repeated every year on September 19 in the martyrdom of the holy day, and on the first Sunday of May, 16 December and sometimes even in the case of special events.
According to legend, San Gennaro was not so easy to kill. In 305 the Roman emperor Diocletian ordered to throw it in the fireplace, which burned for three days, but Januarius came out unharmed. He was thrown to wild beasts, but they began to lick his feet. And then he was beheaded. Some time later, one Neapolitan Gennaro was a ghost and pointed out where his severed head (which at the time penalty rolled in dense thickets). We do not have time to connect the head to the body, how did the woman with the blood flasks. When she came closer to the body, hardened blood began to bubble and become liquid again.
This miracle is contrary to elementary laws of physics and human physiology. Scientists are facing a complex puzzle, trying to explain something. Dried over the period since the IV-th century, the blood suddenly becomes a liquid! In the eyes of many pilgrims, it changes color, volume, density ... And all this happens on certain days of the year, regardless of weather "comes alive" at times directly at the opening of the metal reliquary where the relic resides. Such a change in the blood happens spontaneously, despite the requests and aspirations of the people. So, in 1976, after 8 days of prayer at the shrine of hundreds of Christians, the blood of San Gennaro remained in the collapsed state.
The phenomenon of San Gennaro, which the Italians called Gennaro, there is already 600 years old. If the blood is dry, usually followed by the tragedy. So, in 1527 the plague broke out, which claimed 40,000 lives, and in 1979 - the last time when the miracle did not happen, - 3000 people were killed in a strong earthquake in the south of the country.
Physicists and hematologists agree that the blood stays over 1690 years morphologically unchanging state, as well as sudden changes in volume and density, the transition to the liquid state and returning to the original clot - all this is impossible to estimate with scientific positions. Modern science can not give any more or less sensible explanation of what is happening mysterious phenomenon. Numerous laboratory tests reproducing this phenomenon have failed.
Sometimes the clot is dissolved, only slightly changing the volume. It happens that the blood rises significantly and fills the entire vessel, and sometimes - occupies only a small space. For scientists, the shocking fact is that times change and the density of the blood. The color can vary from bright red to dark or rusty color. Paradoxically, the process seems to move itself from the blood clot in the liquid state. Sometimes it happens instantly, and sometimes the process takes a few minutes or an entire day, all these facts are obvious contradiction of the elementary laws of physics and physiology. Everyone is well aware that the warm blood clots quickly and dries. But not vice versa!
Spectrographic analysis of blood shows that it is a real human arterial blood without all sorts of chemicals or impurities. Version adding to the blood still in the Middle Ages any substance completely eliminated because archeological studies prove that their own bottles and corks are IV-th century, and that the bottles can not be opened except break. The blood of San Gennaro marvelous way does not obey the basic laws of nature, and if obeyed, it had long since deteriorated and would have turned to dust.
Italian scientist Gaston Lambertini after years of research wrote: "The law of conservation of energy, the basics of behavior of colloids (zheleobrazovanie and dissolution), the theory of aging organic colloids, biological experiments on plasma seal - against this background that the substance for centuries defies every law of nature, not is able to explain what is supernatural. The blood of San Gennaro is a clot that lives and breathes, it is not just a relic, as a sign of eternal life and the resurrection. "
One of the witnesses of events, in turn, said: "Ozhivanie blood - a sign of the existence of eternal life and the call to faith in the Resurrection of Christ and the resurrection of the flesh of all people who have ever lived on earth."
St. Januarius and therefore received the crown of martyrdom, that Christ was the highest value for him. Historians say that it happened in the year 305 in the city of Pozzuoli. He was bishop of Benvenuto. In times of persecution the early Christians under the emperor Diocletian (234 - 313 years old) was arrested Deacon Sossus. Bishop Januarius indignantly protested against the unjust arrest of his deacon. In response, the governor of the region Dracontius took custody of the bishop, and sentenced him to death. During the execution of September 19 year 305 a woman of Christians gathered together in his blood bottles. Now the blood of San Gennaro is kept in the Cathedral of Naples, in the chapel, built in honor of the miraculous deliverance of the city from the plague in 1526. In the middle of the metal cabinet is masterfully executed the reliquary, and in it two ampulki IV-th century. One of ampulok bigger and filled with blood by two-thirds. To a lesser ampulki Blood quite a bit. Both vessels are sealed extremely hard mastic sixteen centuries ago.
All research in this regard could made only by means of spectral analysis. Every year on September 18 during the martyrdom of San Gennaro in Naples, near the cathedral gather crowds to the next day to witness the wondrous phenomenon of "ozhivaniya" holy blood. Blood remains in a liquid state, eight consecutive days. Well, after, on the surface bubbles appear and the blood secretly transformed into a clot.
Of course, there are also quite prosaic explanation for the phenomenon. For example, in the end XVIII. Naples captured Napoleon's troops. Soldiers interested in legends about turning the frozen blood in the liquid, and when the priests brought his treasure, an army chemist said that the supposed blood - a wax that melts when it seamlessly brings to the flame of a candle, the French broke the sacred relics, but they were later restored and ceremonies resumed.
In 1921, English physician Frederick Newton Williams, being in Naples, visited the hospital pharmacy. At this time in the pharmacy I came to the sender of the cathedral and asked to make a "normal medicine for tomorrow's holiday." Pharmacist mixture prepared from bovine bile and sodium sulfate, and said to his guest: "As you can see, miracles do happen in our days. Only now they are happening in pharmacies".
