Knowledge of the Dogon
Since ancient times, the star, which modern astronomers call Sirius B, held a sacred place in Dogon religion. How could they know about it so much? It is possible, perhaps, to name two possible explanations for this fact: either the Dogon used some means of vision at a distance, or as deeply convinced themselves Dogon knowledge given to them by aliens from Sirius, who landed on Earth. The latter hypothesis was examined and supported by the historian Robert Temple in the book "The Sirius Mystery", where he provides convincing evidence that the Dogon are the last people on earth who worshiped extraterrestrial aliens - amphibians, landed in the Persian Gulf at the dawn of civilization, and whose memory preserved in pictures and legends that tell of the ancient gods of Babylon, Egypt and Greece.
Dogon Nommo called the name of creating living water. It is believed that they live in a cigar-shaped structures such as the ark, which the Dogon depicted in the figure as "twists and turns moving the ark." They described it produced while driving and crashing noise, as well as appearing in this case on the ground dusty vortex tornadoes. In other legends speaks of the "spurting blood" of the ship that can be attributed to the devastation of the rocket; Dogon also distinguish the ship, which is really down to earth, and like the stars in the sky object, which could be an interstellar spacecraft.
All this would be science fiction if the knowledge and research interest Robert Temple did not lead him to the Dogon home to Libya, and from there to the undeniable parallels between the Nommo and Oannes, an amphibious god of Babylon, the supreme being who, according to legend, with his entourage had taught the inhabitants of Sumer mathematics, astronomy, agriculture, literature, social and political organization, in other words, in the words of Professor Carl Sagan of Cornell University, "everything you need for a transition from the primitive society to the first civilization." Surviving fragments of the "History of Babylon," written in Greek priest named Beross follows describes Oannes: "His body is just like a fish, but a fish's head, there is also human, and bottom fish tail ends of human feet. Voice and speech sound like a human; memories of him are kept to this day ... Because they are amphibians, then immersed with the sunset under the water and spend the night in the dark. "
By establishing parallels between the two gods, Robert Temple brings evidence that is the core of the classic "mystery religions," the link between Oannes and Sirius is far from unambiguous interpretation because prudently recorded in coded form; the founders of the mysteries were not disposed to give secret knowledge, which they were trained. Contact Sirius offers through various clues to: for example, the frequent repetition of the motif of 50 - it's orbital period of Sirius B, and the number of dog-headed gods - or any other mention of dogs in connection with Sirius A, "dog star".
Temple lists a number of legends related to this topic, but since they are all very evasive, there is nothing surprising in the fact that these legends there are many interpretations. But we can not agree with the fact that in a variety of them present Sirius factor. Moreover, the book did not include a large amount of material from Greek mythology, also confirming his theory. Of particular interest is the history of the island of Rhodes for his legendary inhabitants telchines.
The ancient Greek historian Diodorus (1st century BC. E.) Wrote that telchines "discovered the exact sciences, and then introduced to the people with many other useful things for mankind. Also, as they say, they were the first, who served as a prototype for the creation of the statues of the gods, and many ancient images of gods are named in their honor. " This description telchines as bearers of civilization allows to draw a parallel between Oannes and rybolyudmi from the Persian Gulf, which is even more compelling than what they described as the sorcerers, who can control the weather, collect clouds to cause rain and hail; and they were called "underwater spirits" and "demons of the deep sea."
Here are some areas of the Old World, where you can find traces of the ancient tradition dogonskoy. Persian Gulf. Annedotov abode, fish-men, who are considered residents of Babylon brought them civilization. The first and most famous of them was called Oannes or Oe; He said that he had come from "big egg". They appeared at the dawn of history, before the II century BC. e., when Plutarch wrote about the mystical "person", which every year comes from the Gulf, and the "rest of the days of his life holds, wandering with the nymphs." Eris. The oldest city in Sumer, where the first "fallen from heaven" royal ship. It was the city of Enki, or Ea, the god of wisdom and patron of mankind. It was believed that he lives in an underwater palace Apsu, and worship traces of him in the form of piles of fish bones found in an ancient temple in Eridu (3500 BC. E.).
Philista. Local residents worshiped two deities - amphibians Dagon and Atargatis, coorr-respectively male and female, who were depicted with fish tails and human bodies (!). Atargatis is also known as "Syrian goddess," born of "eggs" that fell from the sky into the waters of the Euphrates River. Pharos. Residence amphibious god Proteus, known as "sea the old man." He could change his shape and predict the future. Usually, I am resting in caves, among the sea lions, "sheltered from the heat of the star Sirius." Many of the mythological Greek heroes turned to him as an oracle.
Lake Triton. Residence God-amphibian Triton, who could predict the future and has great power, and gave him almost unlimited possibilities, including the power of the sea. He helped the Argonauts, when their ship crashed on Lake Triton. (Temple points to the important role of Sirius in the myth of the Argonauts 50.)
Aegean Sea. Residence of another "old man of the sea" called Nereus, which, like Proteus and telchines could change shape and make predictions. He had 50 daughters. Nereids, who, like him, are depicted with human bodies and fish tails. It is also believed that he lives in Eridanus, which connects it with the Sumerian god Enki in Eridu.
Business with. A popular place for the prophet and amphibians, the god Glaucus ( "Blue-green"), which is taught to predict the future of Apollo, the Greek god of prophecy (oracle at Delphi). Tanagra. There in the temple of Dionysus exhibited embalmed "Triton". Ancient Greek writer and traveler Pausanias II century saw him and another of the same in Rome "Tritons really interesting place; the hair on their heads like frogs in stagnant water - not only in color, but also because of the fact that they are very smooth and it is impossible to distinguish one from another hair; the rest of their body is covered with scales as shark skin. They have a human nose and gills behind the ears, mouth and very big teeth like a wild beast. It seemed to me that their eyes are gray-green color, and the hands, fingers and nails are covered with a crust like seashells. From the chest and abdomen downward dolphin tail instead of legs going. "
Phigalia. Location of the ancient temple, described by Pausanias, which houses the image of Artemis (on the Temple of the goddess from Sirius), - from the top to the woman's waist, and below - the fish. It is also known as Eurynome - one of the ancient Greek goddesses, living in the sea. Rhodes. Residence telchines, amphibious gods, possessed magical powers, which both feared and respected. Zeus conceived to deprive them of their power, and sent down the bad weather, scattered them around Rhodes; Some escaped to Lucia, where they built the Temple of Apollo, others took refuge in Greece turned into a 50 "hounds of Actaeon."
