Hindi Name: Keekar, Khair, Babool

They are pod-bearing shrubs, with sap and leaves typically bearing large amounts of tannins (used to make leather). Also known as whistling thorns, the seeds and feathery shoots of acacia are used in soups and curries. In USA and Europe it is used in soft drinks, chewing gum and mints. The acacia tree is native to Sindh in Pakistan. Acacia is the gum of the acacia tree. It can easily dissolve in water.

Nutritional Value
It cures diarrhea and cold. It is also known to stop the growth of cancer cells. It is commonly used to cure dental problems. It possesses anti diabetic properties and helps in strengthening the bones.
Acacia has traditionally been used for treating high cholesterol, mouth sores and indigestion.

Usage
Acacia has been used since ancient times. In today’s day it is commonly used in majority of processed foods such as snack foods, dairy desserts (frozen) and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
Acacias are used in making incenses as well. It is used in cosmetics as well, as it does not have adverse side-effects, and is a very potent astringent.
